The Ctenopoma acutirostre, more commonly known as spotted ctenopoma, is a tropical freshwater fish native to Central Africa. It is found in the Congo River basin and the Malebo basin, as well as in various tributaries such as the Lefini, Kasaï, Tshuapa, and Lomani.

How to recognize the spotted ctenopoma ?

Like all fish of its genus, the spotted ctenopoma has the particularity of being able to breathe in two different ways. In addition to the classic gills, this species is equipped with a breathing apparatus called Labyrinthe which allows it to absorb oxygen from the air. These species are commonly called the labyrinth Fish.

This small predator belongs to the Perciformes order and is sometimes referred to as the "climbing perch". It is brown in color with small black spots and exhibits behavior reminiscent of leaf fish.
